Rio Abajo Community Library

The Rio Abajo Community Library (RACL) is owned and operated by the volunteers and donations from the farmers, ranchers and families of the Rio Abajo community.  This northern Socorro County community is made up of approximately 5,800 people and includes the New Mexico villages of:


  • Abeyta
  • Ladron Foothills
  • Bernardo
  • Las Nutrias
  • Blue Springs
  • Sabinal
  • Bosquesito
  • San Juan
  • Contreras
  • Tierra Grande, and
  • Jarales
  • Veguita
  • La Joya


Our work includes cooperative activities with the Northern Socorro Senior Center in Veguita, the La Joya Community Development Association, La Promesa Elementary School, the Socorro Public Library, the Belen Public Library, the Veguita Volunteer Fire Department, the Abeyta Volunteer Fire Department, and various religious organizations.


Although at the moment we are closed (due to pandemic and restructuring), our normal hours of operation are:
                                            Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays -- 11:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

                                                              Fridays -- 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.


We welcome everyone, whether it's to use the computers, check out a book, have a cup a tea, or just visit!  Stop by our new site often as our calendar is due for some major "fun" additions
